Basic information
Becoming a library user
As a library user, you can use all 10 libraries in Viborg Municipality. You can become a library user on this website by following the steps below.
You can also ask the library staff to help you. The process only takes a couple of minutes if you have your yellow health insurance card (sundhedskort) with you.
Registering as an adult
To register on our website, you will need two things: your MitID, and your health insurance card (sundhedskort).
When you have become a user, you use your health insurance card as a library card.
- Click this link.
- Click the Opret dig som voksenbruger button.
- Sign in using your MitID.
- Select a PIN code, enter your contact information, and select a pickup library (the library where you will pick up reserved materials).
Never share your PIN code with anyone.
Registering your child
You can register your child if the child is under 18 years old. Children also use their health insurance cards as library cards. If your child is younger than 16, he or she can get a separate library card instead.
- Click this link.
- Click the Opret dit barn som bruger button.
- Sign in using your MitID.
- Select a PIN code for your child, and provide all other necessary information.
If you would like a separate library card for your child, visit your nearest library. The staff will help you.
You can also register your child with this form (in Danish). Print the form, complete it, and hand it in at the library.
Accessing the library
Opening hours and self-service hours (open library)
You can see the addresses and opening hours for all libraries in Viborg municipality by clicking this link.
During opening hours, the library is open to everyone. There is library staff present to help you if you need it.
During self-service hours (also known as open library), there is no library staff. Users who are 16 years or older can enter the library:
- Scan your health insurance card using the card reader at the library entrance.
- Enter your PIN code.
If you bring others with you to the library, you are responsible for them while they are here.
Do not open windows or entrance doors during self-service hours. Opening them would trigger the alarm.
Click this link to become a library user.
Outside opening hours and self-service hours, the library is closed, and the alarm is activated. Ten minutes before closing time, the speaker system will inform you that the library is closing soon. At closing time, the library PCs shut down, and the lights go out. You must leave the library before closing time. If you do not, and the security company needs to visit the library because you triggered the alarm, you must pay all expenses.
Logging and surveillance
When you enter the open library, we log your CPR number and the time you entered the library. All doors and rooms have surveillance cameras. We use them to keep everybody safe and to protect the library and everything in it from vandalism and theft. We use the camera images according to Danish law.
Borrowing and returning
How to borrow
You can borrow materials using the self-service machines in the library: Scan your health insurance card, enter your 4-digit PIN code, and follow the instructions. You can also borrow items using the Biblioteket app.
- When using the self-service machines, follow the on-screen instructions (available in English and Danish).
- When using the app, use the Scan og Lån feature to scan the barcode on the back of the material.
When you borrow materials, make sure that they are all checked out to you. You can do this by checking that all materials you have borrowed are shown on your receipt or in the Biblioteket app. If they are not, try to scan them again or ask the staff for help.
Click this link to become a library user.
Loan periods
You can usually borrow materials for 14 or 28 days. You can see the loan period for your materials on the receipt from our self-service machines and in the Biblioteket app.
If no one else has reserved the material, you can usually extend the loan period twice. You can do this in the Biblioteket app, online at viborgbib.dk, or by contacting our staff.
We will send you reminders when the due date approaches, and recall notices when you have exceeded the loan period. Please keep your contact information up to date at viborgbib.dk or using the Biblioteket app.
How to return
When you return materials to the library, scan them using the self-service machines in the library.
If someone else has reserved an item that you are returning, you will be asked to drop the item into the box next to the machine. Otherwise place all returned items on the book trolleys next to the machines.
Remember to check that the number of materials you have returned matches the number shown on the screen or your receipt. If the self-service machine has not registered one of the materials you are returning, try scanning it again. You can also ask the staff for help.
Think of the next person who is looking forward to the book, film, or game you have borrowed. Return materials when you have finished with them.
